I can ping internal IP addresses all day long but I can't ping an external web address by name or IP, yet I can browse the internet just fine.

You need to allow the pings back in.

access-list outside->in extended permit icmp any any echo-reply

access-list outside->in extended permit icmp any any time-exceeded

access-list outside->in extended permit icmp any any unreachable
