update ios via console port?

is it possible to update the ios via the console port? If so can you point me in the direction of some documentation or how-to do it?

You can:

but it takes forever. You're better off consoling-up and then connecting a crossover from an ethernet port to your pc.(I assume this is a router. If it's a switch you don't need a crossover) Then run a TFTP server on your pc.

Thanks for your reply. the switch will not pass POST so i can't connect via ip to anything, only got the console port to work with. I got the xmodem copy working.
