Enhanced RTP Header Compression in the MQC?

As per the subject, i'm wondering if it's possible to enable enhanced rtp header compression within the confines of the class-based MQC system

The standard interface level command is

ip header-compression recoverable-loss dynamic

I've had a look around cisco documentation but can't find anything related to my query.

Any help would be great!

Richard

hi Richard,

You are always welcomed a lot on this forum :), i thought that its a replacement enhancement, any way after a through searching and trials, this feature is only supported per interface configuration and not via MQC. please check "Header Compression Features Roadmap":

Hi Richard,

RTP header compression was designed for reliable point-to-point links with short delays. It does not perform well over links with a high rate of packet loss, packet reordering, and long delays.

The Enhanced RTP Header Compression feature (also known as ECRTP) includes modifications and enhancements to RTP header compression to achieve robust operation over unreliable point-to-point links.

Go thro. these docs. which may clarify you better...

Rate if it does,

Hello balajitvk

Thanks for the quick response!

I understand the differences between regular RTP header compression and enhanced, I was flicking through that document only moments before posting here.

My problem is that I have an unreliable point-to-point link which I wish to enable enhanced RTP on. However the RTP compression already on the link has been configured through the MQC (compress header ip rtp) Class Based method.

My query is whether or not there is a command available in the MQC to enable enhanced RTP opposed to "regular".

The only commands i've seen relating to enhanced RTP are on a per interface basis

Thanks!

Richard

Hi,

AFAIK, Cisco IOS Release 12.3(11)T introduced this feature as a replacement to the ordinary RTP (or in other words, that enhances the functionality of RTP header compression) using the same commands, and with these enhancements, RTP header compression performs well over links with packet loss, packet reordering, and long delays.

Hi Mohammed

After reading the configuration guide for RTP Header-Compression located at

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps6350/products_configuration_guide_chapter09186a00805f284e.html#wp1078007

The command (optional) to turn on ECRTP is

router(config-if)# ip header-compression recoverable-loss dynamic

It's not just enabled by default from what I can tell. Unless there's another Cisco document floating around that I haven't found yet.

Would be nice if it was though, then I wouldn't be hassling people on the forums :)
