I have a 2611XM router and when i transfer some traffic to FE 0/1 from FE 0/0 or vice versa, the cpu utilization goes to 100 % utilization and the debug feature is disabled (undebug all).

what is the problem ?

follow attached the sh run command

Antonio,

When you do a sh proc cpu, there is a pair of numbers separated by a / such as 100%/99%.

The second number is the cpu percentage that is taken for interupt level tasks (traffic forwarding as such). If that second number is really high then it is a clear indication that the CPU is really busy forwarding packets and the only thing to do might be to start thinking for a replacement.

On the other hand, if that second number is low, you have to start looking for which process level task ( routing process, VTY process, etc) is consuming the CPU.

Hope this helps,

Hritter,

follow the last results :

64%/44%

55%/39%

43%/29%

that is the deafult behavior,

Did you see the sh run ?

Do you think that ca ben some process ?

Antonio,

Looking at these numbers, we can see in all three cases that a good part of the CPU resources are being used by packet forwarding (interrupt level processing).

It would be interesting to see if it is the same when the CPU reaches 100%. If so, it is probably just the sign that it is time for you to change it for a router with more muscles.

You can also use the "show proc cpu sorted" to determine if any one process in particular is using a good chunk of the CPU resources.

Hope this helps,
