Cisco IP Phone 7936

Unanswered Question
Jun 6th, 2007

Hi Guys,

We used to have 7940 ip phone in our meeting room. With this phone we can invite several participants to conference in using Meet Me etc. Now we have installed Cisco IP Phone 7936 and it only allows 2 conference calls. It will not allow the third person to join the conference.

If I go to Call Manager > Device > Phone and select the 7936 phone, on the left hand side the directory numbers appear. Now if I click on that and go the the bottom of the screen and I will find there is an option to set the max calls. With the previous 7940 phone I have the option to set the value from 1 to 196 but with the new ip phone 7936 I only have the option to input the number of calls as 1 or 2. Now is this the parameter I need to change so that more participant can conference in. If yes then the problem is the call manager is not accepting the value above 2. Please let me know how to do it.

If there is anything else to be adjusted so that more than 3 people can conference in please let me know which parameters I have to change.

Thank you very much.

7936 Conference Station supports only 2 lines.

The below document confirms the same.

Incase we need to conference people into Ad Hoc conference we will have to follow the

below procedure to do so and will be able to achieve to conference more parties into a

call.

Step 1 Press the Phone button.

Step 2 Dial the number of the first party that you want to add to the conference call.

Step 3 After the party answers, press the Confrn softkey to obtain a new line.

The other party is automatically placed on hold.

Step 4 Dial the number of the next party that you want to add to the conference call.

Step 5 When the party answers, press the Confrn softkey again to add the party to the

conference call.

Repeat Steps 3 through 5 to keep adding parties to a conference call.

Lets say you have one 7936 with DN 5000 and you have 3 other 7960 phones with DN's 9000,

9001, 9002.

Now when 9000 calls 7936 , they get connected and are on call now. Now to add up more

people in conference, you need to press HOLD on 7936 phone and dial 9001. This will put

9000 on hold. Now when you will press conference button it will bring 9000, 9001 and 5000

in conference.

Similarly, we can add others in conference call by putting others on hold and dialing new

number to include it in conference call.

As this may be troublesome to put others on hold again and again. The other option you

have is create a "Meet Me conference ID". Simply go to call manager and create a Meet Me

point and tell everyone to call that Meet Me ID. You will need to configure a Conference

Bridge as well.

So in Nutshell, you can add more than 2 persons in conference from 7936 itself by putting

others on hold. But if third person try to call 7936 he will hear busy tone

The 7936 is designed by Polycom and the 2 line support is a limitation from the phone

design end.The data sheets of the phone explains the details of the 7936 phone.
