out of band interface on a switch that doesn't have Sc0 or ME1

Hi,

CatOS provides an sc0 interface and the 4000/4500 has a management ethernet interface, this is very good for out of band management, the question is what about other switches running native IOS.

Assuming that you have a production LAN and you want an seperate OOB (out-of-band) network infrastructure, how would you you configure your switches to treat you OOB differently (like the Sc0) and prevent the switch routing between this interface and any other? assuming you want you management workstation to reach both paths.

I can't think of a solution, I though of using VRF, but not all platforms supports this feature.

Configure a loopback interface whose IP addresses is distributed in your routing table. If the switch is a layer 2 IOS switch, create a management VLAN into which no user ports will go.
