2960G-24TC-L can do vlan, right?

For system1, Imagine I need a switch with 10 ports to connect 1000MB copper servers.

For system2, I need total of 4 ports to connect 1000MB copper mainframe systems.

System1 and system2 do not need to communicate.

Is a WS-C2960G-24TC-L switch in which I could assign respective 12 ports for VLANSystem1 and 12 ports for VLANSystem2 the right switch for this situation?

Hi Friend,

I believe you are referring system 1 and system 2 to some vlan numbers?

If thats correct you have the right switch with you. You will be able to create vlans on this switch and also provide them names if you want and then assign the ports to those vlans.

Have a look at this link

System1 and system2 are server farms.

Guys, you are rocking.

I see that the 3750 would be around $4,000.

These 2960 costs about $1,300 therefore it sounds like I will stick to the 2960 since at this point there is no requirement whatsoever to make system1 and system2 route.

Yes the 2960G-24TC-L will do what you need. It is a manageable layer 2 switch and can be configured for VLANS.

In future if you want the VLANS to communicate you would require a layer 3 device to do the routing.

HTH, rate if it does
