Can some one please confirm that the 4948-10GE switch comes with adapters that allow you to use the 2 x 10gb ports as 4 x 1gb with lc gbics

the question is: "why use 4 links 1Gb each instead of 2 links 10Gb each?"

We are planning on slowly migrating over to 10gb, maybe after a year or so.

The carrier module I believe you are thinking about is like the new E-Series 3750's. That carrier isn't available for the 4948, it's 10Gig only. You may want to check out your switch there is a bug that has been found in the early serial numbers where it will go to RMON after a reboot. The fix is to swap it out, I have 40 of them going back once I figure out how to schedule the downtimes....
