One 1721, one primary connection and how to configure the backup one

HI,

I have a 1721 with two wics.. 1wic 4 lan port and the other one is a 1wic adsl.

Both stablish vpn to the same public ip.

Now, default static route is behind the first connection, but if it crashes?

how can I configure the router to route the packect from the first line to the second one if the first fails?

If your question is how the second preferred routing is to be done , then use a higher matric towards the ATM interface for the ADSL link. If your question is how to detect the ethernet going down , that will be either by a routing protocol or by tracking some reachable ip which when unreachable the secondary route will be used.

ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 publicIP permanent

The solution will be:

ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 publicIP permanent metric 1

ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 publicIP permanent

metric 2
