DLCI question

Hi Expert,

If I have two routers connected using Frame-Relay..

R1---42(DLCI)--(Frame-Relay)---42(DLCI)--R2

Can be the two routers have the same DLCI numbers for their's PVC.

Hi Ibrahim,

The DLCI is local significant, meaning that the DLCI from R1 to the FR cloud and the DLCI from R2 to the FR cloud are independent as long as the SP does cross-connect them to each other to have the end-to-end PVC, thus they can be the same or they can be different.

Hi

Well there some debate in this,but u can have the same DLCI's for both the routers as the DLCI's are locally significant.

If u r provider is having the DLCI's globally significant them u can have it.

Think of the DLCI's as Layer 3-2 mappings meaning that when traffic from the IPAddress of the router local to your location must map to a local significant DLCI in order for correct mappings ex: Map IP "IPAddress" DLCI "DLCI#(Local Significance").HTH
