Hello,
I am trying to get connected from an ATM machine which has an RJ45 port to a switch. I cannot run a CAT cable between these two, the only line i have between them is a telephone line. Any suggestions on how i can get these two connected through the telephone line.
LRE... or something?
Thanks
Daniel

I think you have to use some converter which will convert RJ45 to RJ11. Ethernet cable is used to connect the RJ45 port to a switch port on the Cisco devices

If the line is a reasonable distance, i.e. 300 ft or less, you can clip the RJ-11 connectors off of the cable and crimp on RJ-45 connectors. You'll have 2 pairs in standard RJ-11;wire them straight through using 1,2,3,6 on the RJ-45 connectors.
If there is only one pair then you're out of luck.

It is going to have to be a short run back to the switch on telco wire and it will have to run 10 meg , it certainly won't run 100 meg and may not work at all . The only other option you would have would be to buy one of the LRE switches which is basically ADSL I believe which will go longer distances on telco wire .
