CCIE Reference Sheets

Unanswered Question

Hello Forum Users,

I wanted to let you know, and the author of CCIE Reference Sheets(since I saw that he posts in this forum), that I found an error in the OSPF section under stub areas.

One section says OSPF stub areas block LSA types 4 and 5, but the table on the next page says stub areas block only type 5 LSAs.

I already notified CiscoPress but I haven't heard back.

Hopefully the author will have time to check out these findings and update the errata.

Thank you

I have this problem too.

Thank you so much for pointing this out to Cisco Press and here.

I will ensure the errata is updated appropriately.

Three people proofed that table and it still slipped by!

Thanks again!

Thanks Anthony.

I'm kind of confused on what the correct answer is.

Do regular stub areas allow type 4 LSAs?

Some books say yes, some say no.

Maybe after I get my CCIE, technical editing could be in my future...:)

Thanks again

Regular stub blocks 4 and 5, while totally stubby blocks 3, 4, and 5.

In my table it was a typo, but I agree with you, I have seen other texts confuse this matter. I think where they tend to get confused is with the fact that a default route is permitted into both of the areas described above. For exam purposes, you should not have to worry about that special LSA case of the default, remember the first statement above!
