CCNA and Job Prospects

Unanswered Question

Hello All,

I have been studying for the CCNA off an on for the last year now! I will finally take the test on the 26th of June here in London one day before I fly to lovely Canada for a summer break. So I?m a bit nervous and excited all at the same time. I?ve been doing Sim?s and all sorts of practice tests for months now.

I have been specialising as a support desk analyst contractor for the last three years and all though it can be sometimes technical I really find it to be monkey work now.

I have an IT Post Grade Diploma and a Comp Science Degree and am Java Certified Programmer. With a CCNA role and 3-4 years experience in IT is it possible to move into an engineering position with a CCNA, or am I condemned to the help desk job. Also what type of money can one make as well, although money is not the main goal here, job satisfaction is.

Any heads up would be greatly appreciated.

I have this problem too.

I was in a pretty similar boat as you. In the Helpdesk for about 3 years, getting pretty bored with it. I think a good Helpdesk track record coupled with a CCNA will get your foot in the door of the networking world. I was able to move up in my company into a network admin role.

Do whatever it takes to get some sort of networking experience. Even if it's in your current job. Any experience you can bring when trying to get that first networking job is really valuable.

Good luck on the test!
