Novell IP and Multicast

hi All,

We migrated our novell clients to a different vlan of the novell servers.

Now it is impossible to do a tree based login.

The novell clients are configured to do IP.

When I took a sniffer capture, i noticed the novell client was doing a multicast. I checked the multicast config and according to me, everything is configured well.

Anyone an idea of what to check and maybe something we might forget?

Best regards

Jorg

Novell Clients use SLP (Service Location Protocol) in order to find servers/services over IP.

SLP relies on multicast for client/server and server/server communication.

What you are seeing is normal. If you want to configure the client to communicate over to the server in a routed environment, you must configure Directory Agent at the server and specify the DA in the client properties.

More information regarding this setup can be obtained by asking in the novell support forums.

Good luck !

Thanks,
