Hello all,

I have a router here which has the line protocol down but e0 is up.

When I run the debug the Ethernet interface, I get the following messages:

Lost carrier. Transceiver problem

Any idea on what the cause of this issue may be?

Thanks

You may possibly have a transceivver issue. Try changing out the transciever. Can you supply a show interface ethernet 0 command to show us. Possibly you may have excessive errors which are causing your up/down status...

There might be some platform dependency, but I have seen this error message sometimes when there was not anything plugged into the interface. It might also be an issue that whatever is connected has a shut down interrface. Can you check the physical connection for this interface and verify whether something is plugged in (and if there is a cable in the interface can you verify that something is on the other end of the cable and that it has an active interface)?
