I'm preparing for my CCNA exam and just found two different answers from a question below, could you please tell me what is the correct one...
Q- A network with 15 hosts has one connection to the internet through the R1 route. What routing are recommended in the R1 and ISP router?
From two different books I got the answer
1. A default route on R1 and static route on the ISP router
2.A default route on both routers.
Please can you advise what is the correct one?

Hi ,
First is the correct answer becoz ISP may be connected to different locations other than R1 ...so Statis route must be configured on ISP router.
R1 dosen't know about the networks or destinations to reach within or beyond the ISP ...so a default route pointing towards serial ip of ISP is needed on R1 router.
hosts----R1------------ISP
deafult route---> <---static route
Thanks,
Satish

HI, [PLS Rate if HELPS]
Your Study Setup is this way:
--------|
15 Hosts|---Switch---R1---ISP Router
--------|
2. Default Route on Both Routers
from Switch----Default Route----to R1
from R1----Default Route----to ISP Router
PLS Rate if HELPS

Hi,
Answer 1 is the correct one, R1 (CE router) needs a default route to forward all traffic to the ISP, and the ISP router should just have a static route routing back the packets destinated to the LAN connected to R1 back to R1.
A default route at the ISP is a wrong answer, it must be a specific route for the LAN of R1.
HTH, please do rate all helpful replies,
Mohammed Mahmoud.
