what's difference between the two part number? looks the first one is bundle to hardware and the 2nd for additional.

LIC-CM5.1-7815=(License CallMgr 5.1 7815 Appliance, 500 seats)

LIC-CM-DL-500=(CallManager Device License - 500 units)

Thanks in advance,

As you may know already, 7815s can only be run in pub/sub model (just 2 servers) and you can only home upto 500 devices per server. If you need more than 500, then you will need to go to a 7825 which can home up to 1000 devices per server. The seat quantity mentioned here is the server capacity limit.

This part number LIC-CM5.1-7815 does not include LIC-CM-DL-500. You have to order that separate.

The 500 seats in the LIC-CM5.1-7815 part number and the 500 DLUs are not equivalent. A seat could be single phone, a gateway, a cti port, analog port etc. Each phone may be equivalent to X number of DLUs depending on the type of phone.

To summarize DLU is a measure for licensing.

Seat is a measure for server capacity.

Use this tool to size the server appropriately.

The first part no is a node license for Callmanager. You will need one of these per Callmanager node (Pub/Sub etc).

The second part number is 500 device license units. These are used by phones. License manager service in Callmanager keeps track of how many DLUs are in use and how many are available. A 7960 phone for example needs 4 DLUs.

Thanks Sankar,

what's meaning 500 seats? Is it include 500 DLU?

John

The term seat is not used any more with Callmanager 5.x. Every phone will need certain number of DLUs in CM. A DLU is a device license unit. A phone may require more than 1 DLU to work with CM.For example you could roughly home 500/4 = 125 7960 phones on Callmanager with that many DLUs.

Hi John,

Just to add a note to Shankys good info, you will require both Licenses (Node License with seats and Device License Units/DLU's for phones);

**Licenses are generated for requested Cisco CallManager nodes (servers in a Cisco CallManager cluster - with seats *Node License) and the phones that are associated with those nodes (DLU's on a separate License).

***Note - Upload the license file only on the first node of Cisco CallManager cluster.

From this good doc:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/sw/voicesw/ps556/products_administration_guide_chapter09186a0080530f9b.html

The Cisco CallManager server where the license file is loaded, assumes the functionality of a license manager.

The license manager serves as the logical component that keeps track of the licenses that the customer purchases and the licenses that customer uses. It refers to the processes that control the checkin and checkout of the licenses. It keeps track of the number of license units that are required for each phone type. The license manager has responsibility for issuing and reclaiming licenses, and detecting whether there is an overdraft of licenses.

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/sw/voicesw/ps556/products_administration_guide_chapter09186a0080531ebb.html#wp49438

Device licenses are required for Cisco devices and for third-party devices, with the flexibility to replace third-party devices with Cisco devices. Device licenses are sold in increments of device-license units (DLU's). Device-license units are assigned to each device connected to Cisco Unified CallManager 5.0. Each device is assigned a unit number based on the type and capabilities of the device. Devices with more complex and high-end capabilities are assigned a higher number of units compared to devices with basic capabilities,

Here is the DLU breakdown;

Cisco Unified IP Phone 7902G = 1

Cisco Unified IP Phone 7905G = 2

Cisco Unified IP Phone 7911G = 3

Cisco Unified IP Phone 7912G = 3

Cisco Unified Wireless IP Phone 7920 (no battery) = 4

Cisco Unified IP Conference Station 7936 = 3

Cisco Unified IP Phone 7940G = 4

Cisco Unified IP Phone 7941G = 4

Cisco Unified IP Phone 7941G-GE = 4

Cisco Unified IP Phone 7960G = 4

Cisco Unified IP Phone 7961G = 4

Cisco Unified IP Phone 7961G-GE = 4

Cisco Unified IP Phone 7970G = 5

Cisco Unified IP Phone 7971G = 5

Cisco Unified IP Phone 7985G = 6

Third-party SIP device (basic) = 3 (third-party)

Third-party SIP device (advanced) = 6 (third-party

Hope this helps!

Rob

I may not described the qustion properly. My requirement is 500 DLU and ordered the following part number which bundle to MCS-7815 box.

LIC-CM5.1-7815=(License CallMgr 5.1 7815 Appliance, 500 seats)

I think '500 seats' is not meaning number of node since I have only one node(Publisher). Is the above license include the 500 DLU or do I need another part number as 'LIC-CM-DL-500=(CallManager Device License - 500 units)'?

Thanks,

As you may know already, 7815s can only be run in pub/sub model (just 2 servers) and you can only home upto 500 devices per server.
