HI there

I am currently have my CCna and would like to take it to the next level. I would really like to go for the voice track. Considering that i don't have any background in voice should I consider CCNP first? What will be the best lab setup for the CCVP ?

i would personally go for ccnp first.

as far as lab set up, you should do online rack rental...

just enter "cisco rack rental" into your fav. search engine.

The CCVP is a specialization Cert and assumes a strong familarity with network gear and configurations with IOS and how it all works together. It also has a fair amount of stuff not network related. Some of the topics for the networking portion get pretty deep very fast in the CCVP if you don't have some of the Knowlege that you would gain from experience or from the CCNP track you'll still end up going back and reading CCNP like material.

I would definately go with CCNP First. I have finsihed BCSI and BCMSN so far so Im not just suggesting you follow a path that I wouldnt.

The core of networking is routing/switching. Without knowledge of routing/switching it can make life tough for you when your deploying voice in networks.

Im not saying you cant go and pass tests, anyone can do that by reading and practicing with labs. Im just saying for a Solid foundation in the field one should know routing and switching really well before they start voice. Unless of course you are a voice specialist for a company who also has routing/switching guys :)
