Cisco Catalyst 6500 doesn't learn new MAC addresses

Hello,

we have a problem on some of our 6500?s with WS-X6148A-GE-45AF line cards.

From time to time it occurs when we plug a new network device to this kind of switches,

the port goes up and the line protocols goes up, but there is no communication

possible to this network device. Also we can?t see the MAC address of the new connected device

on the switchport. When we do a "hw-module module X reset " command, the

switch learns the MAC address of the new device after the reset.....

The bug tracker doesn't describe such a problem.....

Our used software version is "s3223-ipbasek9-mz.122-18.SXF"

Thanks in advance

This issue may be due the amount of address that TCAM can store has been exhausted its limit.

clear the mac address table or clear the mac addresses in the unused port.

Hello,

thank?s for your posting.

But I think that's not the problem :-(

"show mac-address-table count module 6"

MAC Entries for module 6 :

Dynamic Address Count: 257

Static Address (User-defined) Count: 16

Total MAC Addresses In Use: 273

Total MAC Addresses Available: 65536

Kind Regards

Matthias
