Pit group for CCM 4.1.3

Has anyone heard of the concept of a 'Pit Group' for assigning phone coverage? The concept sounds similar to a CallPickup group with a twist. This customer would like to have a group of phones that will be notified of incomign calls to the group (blink or beep, not ring) as well as have the ability to 'pick' them if desired.

Any ideas on how to acheive this?

One option would be to assign a shared line to a group of phones as a secondary line and set the Ring Settings for the DN to Flash Only. When someone calls the DN, the group of phones would flash and users would have the ability to pickup the call. The DN on the phone with primary responsibility for call coverage could be set to ring.

Hope this helps.

Brandon

True... And I could see everyones personal DN to forward NA to the shared line. Thanks for the input.

Hi Kasey,

Just to add a note to Brandons good info. The feature that addresses this exact issue is avaiable in CCM 4.2 and 6.x trains;

Call Pickup Notification

This new feature allows users to receive an audio and/or visual alert when a call rings on a phone in pickup groups in which they are a member. For multiple line phones, the alert is available for pickup groups associated with the primary line only.

You can configure the following notification parameters in the Call Pickup Group Configuration window:

Type of notification (audio, visual, both, or neither)

Content of the visual notification message (called party identification, calling party identification, both, or neither)

Number of seconds delay between the time the call comes into the original called party and the notification to the rest of the call pickup group members

From this 4.2.1 doc;

Hope this helps!

Rob

Good info, Rob. I didn't know about this feature.

Brandon

Thanks Brandon :) It's hard to keep up with all the changes isn't it! This feature is one of the better ones.

Take care,

Rob
