help on DSP and voice termination

hi,

I don't understand why it's necessary to allocate DSP ressource to voice termination.

normally all the voice port module (FXS, FXO, VWIC-E1, VWIC-T1) have a built in DSP. so why do we need to allocate extra DSP ressource to that.

when human voice comes in the interface, it's handle by the DSP of that interface.

I understand why DSP is used for transcoding and conferencing.

thanks for your help

Hi,

There are no DSP on the interfaces you mentioned. The DSPs are either on the network module (older technology), or directly on the router mainboard as PVDM2 module (newer ISR routers).

Hope this helps, please rate post if it does!
