Is it possible to QOS classify BGP keepalives and give it high priority traffic ?
thank you

You cannot classify only the BGP keepalive packets and prioritize it.
You can prioritize the traffic between the peers/neighbors on TCP port 179 though

Hi,
You can match the port or use NBAR to recognice BGP Keepalives and classify it with CS6. it will be getting higher priority over everything.

Thank you.
Just wondering how do you recognize BGP keepalives packets ? is there a signature ?
I can understand regarding the BGP peer and prioritizing Dest 179

Hi,
NBAR uses port mappings as well.
Router# show ip nbar port-map
port-map bgp udp 179
port-map bgp tcp 179
port-map cuseeme udp 7648 7649
port-map cuseeme tcp 7648 7649
port-map dhcp udp 67 68
port-map dhcp tcp 67 68
which will enable it to track BGP Keepalives.
and then match teh same using protocol BGP and put it in whichever class you want with a higher priority.
Thanks and Regards,

I just want to mention that BGP traffic is already assigned a IP precedence of 6 just like most control plane traffic.
Hope this helps,
