What is ?logging asdm? for? Does this command dictate if log messages are sent to ASDM? If so, why does show log asdm also show messages that seemed to be stored on the ASA itself? I?m confused if this is for sending log messages to the ASDM or if it?s local logging similar to ?logging buffered? and if it?s the latter, what?s the need for duplicate log buffers?

Hi,
logging asdm : To send system log messages to the ASDM log buffer
http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/multisec/asa_sw/v_7_2/cmd_ref/l2_711.htm#wp1686279
show log asdm : To show the logs in ASDM logging buffer
http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/multisec/asa_sw/v_7_2/cmd_ref/s4_711.htm#wp1306382
First command will send system logs to the ASDM buffer, and suppose you turn "logging asdm" off, and go back to CLI, and issue command "show log asdm", it will show you what it already has in ASDM logging buffer.

Prem

Got it. If I don't have my ASDM running but have the command configured, would the contents of 'show logging asdm' be any different from 'show logging buffered'
