Does anyone know of any restrictions to adding new IP phones when switch is running under RPS?

Hi,
It depends on your RPS, for example the Cisco RPS 2300 is capable of fully backing up two 48-port switches delivering 15.4W of PoE on all ports.

The RPS is a 675. Customer reported power issues on 2 x attached 3560'S. 1 did not recover so eng tried to repatch to the second switch which housed 12 x Mitel 5010 IP Phones.. The 2nd switch did not supply POE to any new attached devices even though looking at power allocation for switch all should be fine I.E 374 watt total allocation 12 x IP phones which draw 15.4 w totalling only 184 w.
Any thoughts?

From documentation:
"375W maximum for -48VDC and 300W maximum for 12VDC"
and
"Supports traditional Ethernet switches (12V output) and new inline powered Ethernet switches (-48V output) for voice-over-IP (VoIP) telephones"
So you have only 1 watt left, if you're using 374W.

The 675 is only supporting one switch at time. The second 675 is dead in the water. Customer repatches one of the phones away from it onto the switch being powered by the RPS and phone added does not receive power. In essence only 12 phones are being powered should only 184 W being drawn.

Were the switch port connected to any non PoE devices before repatching?
There is a bug in the 3560 IOS.
The Bug ID is CSCsc10999
Problem: Switch does not power PD when non-PD device previously plugged into port
The resolution is to upgrade the switch to atleast Upgrade to 12.2.25SED or higher
Maybe you are running into this issue
