I am not sure whether this is a question or is a statement. It is true that a layer 2 link (or a layer 2 interface) can not be configured with an IP address. Since IP addresses operate at layer 3 they can not be configured on layer 2 links or layer 2 interfaces. This may particularly be an issue when configuring a switch. The layer 2 interfaces and layer 2 links on the switch can not be configured with an IP address, but IP address can be configured on layer 3 interfaces and links.
