Hi
You can do this but you need the IOS firewall feature set on your router and an AAA server to implement it. It is called auth-proxy and attached is a doc to configuring it on IOS 12.4

Hi,
Unfortunately AFAIK you must use TACACS+ or RADIUS for authentication and authorization in the case of auth-proxy, any way you can have an open source RADIUS to do this for you, like the famous FreeRADIUS:

Hi
I think Mohammed is spot on with this. I did think you would be able to use local accounts on the router but after some further reading it looks like you have to use a Radius/Tacacs server.
Windows has a AAA server but i don't know whether it is compatible, otherwise as Mohammed says there are free versions out there.

Hi,
Windows Radius is compatible. I guess you should go for Radius implementation. By this users would be prompted for user name /pwd and then only it will allow user to access http.
All your user accounts will be on Radius.

well im using freeradius for windows and it seems to be functioning so far so good
my implementation is for free http access in a sports bar, currently im trying to upload a htm file to the router in order to place the terms and conditions b4 login but it is saying the file has to be under 8000 bytes, is there a way to get around this or is there a way i can redirect users to an html page or site where i can place the terms and conditions along with the bar's logo?
thanks
