RJ-11 connector patch panels for VG248

Hi, I'm trying to set up a VG248 Gateway to connect a few old phones to our existing CCM system. We ordered the VG248 a while ago and it arrived on its own, without any patch panels or cables for the two banks of 24 RJ-11 connections. I've been looking online to try and find a place to buy these cables but I can't see them mentioned anywhere. They seem to be only briefly mentioned in the User manual. Does anyone know of a place I can buy them?

Thanks,

Hi Dan,

Just to add a note to the good info you received from Paolo (Congrats on the Green Star P! 5 points to replace the undeserved one point rating I saw you receive yesterday on another Forum).

Here are the parts you would need to connect to a 24 port rack mounted Patch Panel (without needing to terminate the cable with Bix or 110 connecting tools).

Cisco RJ21 Cables

24 Port with RJ21 Male

These are just examples :) I have not checked pricing $$

Hope this helps!

Where are you located ? BlackBox has many options but is expensive. Suggest a local telecom supply store.

I'm located in Ireland. I checked blackbox but I couldn't find the correct patch panel. I found one 48 port RJ11 here:

http://www.blackbox.com/Catalog/Detail.aspx?cid=45,646,890&mid=1356

But this doen't mention anywhere that it is compatible with a cisco VG248. Is there some kind of standard for these? From what I understand, I need 2 cable's that have a 50-pin telco male connection on one end, and 24 RJ11's on the other. All of the cable that I've found only allow 12 RJ11's connection on a Telco 50-pin male?!?

Yes there is a standard for 24 pairs on the the telco-50, and yes the patch panel with rj-11 is a little hard to find. For this I suggest a local supplier that can order or make to custom spec, sometime also the exit angle of the connector is important for a nice installation.

thanks, I'll look into that. I'm surprised that nothing is mentioned about it on the cisco manual for the VG248

Thank you Rob for the continued appreciation, that is mutual!

Actually I liked the Red Star better!

Hi Paolo,

I know what you mean! (you won't be at this level very long anyways) Please see my edited previous post :)

Take care,

Rob

Thanks for all the help, that's exactly what I was looking for.

PS: do you know if this will instantly eat up 48 ports worth of license's once I connect it to CCM, or will they all be disabled by default? Is there much configuring involved in a VG248 or are they just a glorified ATA?

Hi Dan,

The VG's do not consume any DLU's (License Units) and these ports are disabled by default. I have always found the VG248 to be one of the nicer peices of Cisco equipment to configure. Have a look at these docs that explain the Hardware and Software components of the install;

Please go to www.blackbox.com and look at parts JPM012 and ELN25T-0005-MF.
