In preparation for an upcoming install, I set up a Unity 4.2 with separate exchange server and configured the exchange for IMAP4 according to the Cisco doc.
My client machine is a standalone XP box with Outlook 2003. I configured the IMAP account as my default and it succesfully shows and plays voice messages with VMO.
My problem is when select delete message, it stays in the Inbox with a slash through it. It can't be dragged to the Deleted Items folder and it can only be marked new. The message has been deleted on the Unity side and the MWI lamp goes off.
Am I missing something here?

Hi -
Check out this link - http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook/HP052426151033.aspx
I found a similar post for Outlook 2007, same thing. Why are you using IMAP with Exchange instead of MAPI since you have Outlook 2003 clients? Just curious ...

Thanks Ginger,
I was not involved in the sale. I assume the customer wanted to save licencing money by buying VM seats only and running as a separate messaging server not UM.
I don't think Cisco supports Unity running VM seats only with it's own mailstore with MAPI clients...am I wrong?

Hi Scott -
I believe you are thinking of Cisco's own message store - Unity Connection, which is not Exchange based. Cisco has supported Unity in a voicemail only configuration with onbox Exchange (same server as Unity) since version 3.x. Here is the new link for version 5.0 - http://www.cisco.com/en/US/customer/docs/voice_ip_comm/unity/5x/installation/guide/vmexnofo/5xcuigvmenofo060.html

No I'm not.
Unity in IMAP configuration requires a server to run Unity and a second server to run Exchange (both are in a separate domain from the customer AD domain).
My understanding is that only IMAP connections to the this server were supported and that MAPI (Which depends on AD authentication) was not.

Hi -
Is this the document you referenced? - http://www.cisco.com/en/US/customer/products/sw/voicesw/ps2237/products_white_paper0900aecd8031c947.shtml
I noted the following, "The Cisco Unity system installed into an existing Active Directory environment is not supported. The supported configuration in this document is one in which the Active Directory and Exchange infrastructures are built out and dedicated to the Cisco Unity system. For installations that use an existing Active Directory environment for either voice messaging or unified messaging, the solutions provided in this white paper do not apply."

Correct - IMAP4 is only supported in this config, not MAPI.
