Cisco 2801 interface/module configuration

Hi all

I need to terminate 2 x FEthernet WAN connections and provide a 1 x LAN connection on a Cisco 2800 series. I thought that purchasing the basic 2801 together with a HWIC-1FE interface/module would be sufficient. Can this single HWIC-1FW module be fitted into the 2801 without much trouble? Just can't seem to find much info on CCO though it does mention that the 2801 can support HWIC-1FE interface. Thanks.

Yes, you can put up to two HWIC-1FE in the 2801. See:

http://cisco.com/en/US/products/ps5854/products_data_sheet0900aecd80581fe6.html

But at that point it may make more sense placing a cheap L2 switch and doing the routing with VLAN subinterfaces using the two FE ports the router has already.

In any case do not expect routing to run at FE wire speed using a 2801.

Hope this helps, please rate post if it does!

Wow, I did not think of using a cheap L2 switch. This method would definitely works. Whick 2800 platform would allow me to at FE wire speed? Thanks.

The 2800 platform supports only Sub rate DS3 speeds and hence will not give wire speed performance at FE speeds.

After having lost it, I've been looking for the above sheet for months.

Thanks Narayan, I've rated your post a '5'!

Thanks Paolo

Let me know if you also need the switch one :-)

Anyway can you share your mail ID. Working on some Cisco & Avaya integration and you would be of most help

It is in my profile Narayan.

I looked up the specs of DS3 speed at http://www.worldspice.net/services/ds3.html and it seems that DS3 max speed is 45Mbps. According to the router performance sheet, the 2801 does Fast/CEF switching at 46.08Mbps with 64 byte packet size. Is this ability of NOT able to go above 45Mbps what you mean by wire speed performance at FE speed?

Hi, beside that the NM-T3/E doesn't physically fit in the 2801 because it doesn't have a NM slot, then yes, the 2800 series are not FE wire speed boxes anyway.
