Are you setting up a WAN or a LAN ? Your query seem to contradict what you want to do (one question it mentions a WAN while another question it mentions switches).

If setting up a LAN, all the users located in the same floor ? How are they are geographic distributed ?

Sorry, I mean not to contradict.

I am making a LAN and connecting it to the internet and a WAN with a point to point line.

All are on the same floor with Star Topology.

Well, asside from the fact that you should build in Redundancy, You should be using vlans and subnets which does not require additional equipment, just some configuration. So if you have a problem, your whole network would not suffer.
