PPP Multilink and Authentication

Unanswered Question

Hi Sir,

I have an existing Multilink PPP config as follows:

!

interface Serial0/0

no ip address

encapsulation ppp

ppp multilink

ppp multilink group 1

!

interface Serial0/1

no ip address

encapsulation ppp

ppp multilink

ppp multilink group 1

!

interface Multilink1

ip address 1.1.1.1 255.255.255.252

ppp multilink

ppp multilink group 1

!

Now I need to enable authentication on these links using CHAP, but if unavailable, then PAP.

On which interfaces should I configure the following two commands:

ppp authentication chap pap

ppp pap sent-username myrouter password cisco

Please advise.

Thank you.

B.Rgds,

Lim TS

For what appear to be dedicated point to point links I do not understand the need for authentication. But if you want to or need to do authentication then the authentication commands will go on the multilink interface and not on the physical interfaces.
