HSRP Load Sharing

Can we have HSRP with Load Sharing between the 1721 and 1841 routers?

Are any extra modules or interfaces required?

We have been told that we can do HSRP between the 2 routers with NO extras required. But by having Load Sharing it provides us with some extra bandwith.

Hi Matt ,

Please check the below link for load balancing and sharing using MHSRP...

Hi Matt,

you might want to have a look into Gateway Load Balancing Protocol (GLBP), which was introduced to do exactly that: load balancing of redundant default gateways. You will find, that it has some advantages against the usual HSRP approach to solve the issue. With HSRP you can create TWO virtual gateways and give clients different default gateway IPs. This was not optimal. GLBP allows you to have ONE default gateway IP and clients are distributed among all available gateways to loadbalance traffic.

For all technical details have a look at "Configuring GLBP"
