output drops and loss of connection

Unanswered Question

Hi All,

My core is a cisco 4507R which is connected to my pix for internet. I am experiencing some pretty severe connection loss. The vlan interface on my core directly connected to the pix internet at cannot ping consistently. When I look at the interface on the 4507R I see a LOT of output dropped packets. At the time of writing this it looks like this:

GigabitEthernet3/3 is up, line protocol is up (connected)

Hardware is Gigabit Ethernet Port, address is 000f.2473.07a2 (bia 000f.2473.07a2)

MTU 1500 bytes, BW 100000 Kbit, DLY 10 usec,

reliability 255/255, txload 42/255, rxload 1/255

Encapsulation ARPA, loopback not set

Keepalive set (10 sec)

Full-duplex, 100Mb/s, link type is auto, media type is 10/100/1000-TX

input flow-control is off, output flow-control is off

ARP type: ARPA, ARP Timeout 04:00:00

Last input never, output never, output hang never

Last clearing of "show interface" counters never

Input queue: 0/2000/0/0 (size/max/drops/flushes); Total output drops: 13985536

Queueing strategy: fifo

Output queue: 0/40 (size/max)

5 minute input rate 325000 bits/sec, 70 packets/sec

5 minute output rate 16695000 bits/sec, 1466 packets/sec

26433 packets input, 16958019 bytes, 0 no buffer

Received 2 broadcasts (0 multicast)

0 runts, 0 giants, 0 throttles

0 input errors, 0 CRC, 0 frame, 0 overrun, 0 ignored

0 input packets with dribble condition detected

1541681 packets output, 2205973562 bytes, 0 underruns

0 output errors, 0 collisions, 0 interface resets

0 babbles, 0 late collision, 0 deferred

0 lost carrier, 0 no carrier

0 output buffer failures, 0 output buffers swapped out

I can only think that the "total output drops" being so high has somethign to do with my connection loss. can someone provide some info?

I have this problem too.

What kind of line card do you have in slot 3 of this 4507R. If its a 48 port gigabit line card, keep in mind that its oversubscribed 8 times.

Also, issue a sh int gig 3/3 counters detail and see if the drops are due to RX-Flowcontrol.
