Is there anybody out there knowing wath is the difference between default route and default gateway in router ?

Hi
Yes to all intents and purposes. If the router had ip routing turned off and you wanted the router to talk to other machines on different vlans/subnets it would need to have a default gateway.

default gateway is used if ip routing is turned off on the router to get off the router. A defualt route is used when ip routing is turned on but their is no route in the table for the destination, that traffic gets sent to the default route.

does that means that the default gateway is used, if the route acts as a end system? Like a l2 switch?
