Is there any stats or even a real time snapshot that can reveal how many users are logged into a hunt group at anyone time using the hlog key?

Are you using CM or CME? For the latter, use "show ephone-hunt".

Not sure with CM.
Please try reposting like "hunt group status under CM 4.2" for a better visibility to the question.
