Can anyone tell me how the ip packet fits inside the the ethernet frame, has anyone got a link to a diagram ?

The Data Field / Payload of the frame is the IP Packet.

Hi Carl,
As illustrated in the diagrams above, the IP packet is simply inserted inside the datagram/payload field of the frame, in other words the IP packet is the payload of the frame, i.e the frame encapsulates the IP packet.
