I am in search of finding a (possibly open source or cisco's own) utility that would generate alerts (sms or email etc) in real time as and when any of the Router interfaces goes down on line protocol or the interface itself. I need to basically monitor my ISP provided ATM/T1 lines.
How can I got about it? Pls advise!!

I think you have to use Status Summary panel to monitor the overall status of all your router resources by type of condition. For more information on SSP please clock following URL:

You might want to look into Cisco's LMS product suite, and specifically Device Fault manager (DFM). It offers real-time network health monitoring and notification services.
