Port Channel

Can anybody tell me what is a Port channel and wht is it practically used for?

I have this problem too.

A port channel is a logical interface that is used in etherchannel configuration. Basically you take a number of indivudal ports and group them together to act as one large connection eg.

gi0/1, gi0/2, gi0/3, gi0/4 -0 4 separate ports each capable of a 1Gb. You group them together and the logical interface for these 4 ports becomes the port channel. You can apply config to the port channel interface and it gets replicated to each of the gigbit interfaces.
