i have a switch 2950.

i create 2 interface vlan (1 and 2).

the problem is when i do "conf t" , "interface vlan 1), "no shut" the int vlan1 is up but vlan2 is down.

and the same with int vlan2.

i dont know what's the problem.

why they can not be up in the same time.

I have this problem too.

You are creating two Layer3 interfaces and this switch is only Layer2, hence it's a limitation in the hardware.

However, you are allowed to create multiple Layer2 Vlans but in order to perform inter-vlan routing, you need a Layer3 device (router or switch) connected to both Vlans.

They do but those IP addresses will never become active if the interface is down/down.

That's how the hardware limit its use. Only one Layer3 up/up at the time.
