do you telnet to a ASA's public or private IP address?

The the light on the branch office ASA5505 VPN is green. We can ping the public IP. We are not able to start a telnet session on the ASA's public IP "Could not open connection to the host, on port 23: Connect failed". Telneting to the ASA's private IP is a no-go--blank screen on the command line interface. The branch office with the ASA has access to internet. The branch office has access to email server in central office.

1. Do we telnet to private IP or public IP?

Any suggestions to remotely acces the ASA would be appreciated.

Hi

You can remotely access the ASA using telnet in the clear.

you can

1) use ssh to access the outside interface

2) If you want to use telnet you need to do it inside an IPSEC tunnel.
