Hi, a corporate user has looked into the Cisco IP Telephony and is opting to deploy only the IP Communicator solution with a Communications Mger for a network of 400 users. Is this advisable?

Personally would try anything to make them not to do it:
Cons for the integrator:
- less revenues
- more implementation work due to implication with PC's HW and SW.
Cons for the customer:
- dependence by PC availability even for basic phone services
- lesser call quality (clicks can be heard when switching windows)
Try wagging the cost of IPCP licenses as deterrent against a traditional physical phone implementation taht give you more bang for the buck.

It would be good to plan to buy the PhoneProxy in addition to the IP Communicators.
Check this link:

Thus you can proxy your IPCs to appear to the CCM as if they were in a Voice VLAN.
Some users in my company prefer to use their IPCs more that their hardware phones so there is no 100% Yes or No.
