Hi All.

One of my junior technicians decided to erase the flash memory of our new ASA5505. This being the first ASA that we've had, I didn't think much, as I can treat it like a router...welll..... I booted it into ROMMON to copy the image from the TFTP server, on my connected laptop.

I've entered the following variables:

ADDRESS=192.168.0.25

SERVER=192.168.0.110

GATEWAY=192.168.0.110

PORT=Ethernet0/0

VLAN=untagged

IMAGE=

CONFIG=

LINKTIMEOUT=20

PKTTIMEOUT=4

RETRY=20

My problem seems to be that when I enter the variable for the IMAGE:

image asa721-k8.bin

All I get is the error message that the command is wrong.

I can ping the server (.110) and everything else is correct. I'm connected via Serial/HyperTerminal and then the network cable going into 0/0.

Can someone help?

i think you want the following command:

file asa721-k8.bin

then enter:

tftp

this assumes your asa721-k8.bin file is on a tftp server at 192.168.0.110

Okay, this has been resolved, however the ASDM launcher will not connect to it.

I don't have any experience with ASDM. Can anyone lend a hand?

you'll need to load the asdm image - assuming it was also erased by your junior engineer.

access to asdm is similar to granting access to telnet/ssh.

http server enable

http 192.168.1.1 255.255.255.255 inside

change 192.168.1.1/32 to whatever host(s) you want to have access to asdm.

be sure to use https. when prompted for a username/passwd, just enter the enable password , leaving the username blank. You'll need java 1.4.2 or higher wherever you're accessing it from.

Have you copied the ASDM image to the flash if not copy the asdm image to the flash as you copied the .bin fine

and give the path asdm image disk0:/asdmXXX.bin in the config mode
