default MTU on windows ??

Hi,

I know the default MTU for a ethernet is 1500. But what's the default MTU size on a windows OS, xp/2000/2003 ?? and how to check this value?

Supposedly the MTU is found in the following reg key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\

Interfaces\[Adapter ID]]

My issue though is that when I went to look at the MTU setting it was set to 1300. I know I have sent larger size frames than that, so I don't know how useful that reg key really is.
