multi vlan

Hi

I read that when you make multi vlans Cisco recommend connect the switch to routers or servers only.

So, if you have a 6500 with a router processor, it is possible to connect a multi vlan to a port in the 6500.

I have this question because this is my scenario:

6500 (with MSFC2) trying to connect to a 2424XL

The port in the 6500 is auto

the 2924XL connect to a standard switch with two vlans, so I need to put one port on the 2924XL in multi vlan mode

It is possible to do??

I have this problem too.

Hi Friend,

It is not possible because Cat6k will not be able to understand packets from different vlan. The only option cat6k will be having is an access port or trunk port.

If you keep it as access port configuring to one of the vlan then it will only understand one vlan data from 2900XL switch and if you configure trunk port then it will only understand tag traffic and 2900XL multi vlan port will not send any tag traffic.

I will recommend you to configure 2900XL switchport as trunk port.
