Hi,
It can track both serial or ethernet type of interfaces. But what will track depends on our requirement and configuration.
Command syntax is,
Cisco IOS Release 12.2(13)T and Earlier Releases
standby [group-number] track interface-type interface-number [interface-priority]
U can give either serial or ethernet interface as per requirement.
Rate if it does,

While both of these answers are technically correct (HSRP can track Ethernet) I believe that they should have included a warning. The warning is that HSRP track (if configured with the standard track interface ethernet 0) will look for the line protocol to go down, and Ethernet is likely to lose connectivity but for the line protocol to not go down, so HSRP would not react to loss of connectivity through the Ethernet because the Ethernet interface will show as up/up even when it no longer can communicate with its neighbor.
To get HSRP to really work with Ethernet interfaces you need to configure the optional capability to check for connectivity to a remote address.
