Hi all,

I have a question related to the commands

sh processes memory and sh processes cpu.

We have WS-C2924-XL-EN and when I write those commands I see that memory is used over 85 % and cpu is about 50 %.

Over there si a lot of info. How I resolve what is really eating those resources?

Hi John,

You have to look at the process which is eating up the maximum memory & CPU. For eg:

sh proc memory

Total: 171242656, Used: 31009484, Free: 140233172

PID TTY Allocated Freed Holding Getbufs Retbufs Process

161 0 188 0 7048 0 0 DHCPD Database

162 0 0 0 17904 0 0 IP-EIGRP Router

163 0 314623268 309146300 5524812 0 0 IP-EIGRP: PDM

164 0 0 0 17904 0 0 IP-EIGRP Router

165 0 104796788 104020336 774552 0 0 IP-EIGRP: PDM

166 0 8128008 8128008 6852 0 0 IP-EIGRP: HELLO

167 0 8125036 8125036 6852 0 0 IP-EIGRP: HELLO

Just have a look at the values under HOLDING field. In this case we can see that EIGRP process is holding the maximum memory. Similarly you can see for process in the CPU command.

Hi,

thanks for answer. Iv found other switch which has higher memory load. *Init* process eats up the most resources. What do you think about it?

Hi John,

Try using - "sh processes cpu | exclude 0.00%". Then You will see which process loads Your switch. From expirience I know that on Cat2900, there is process "Calhoun LED Proc" which is taking about 16% of CPU and that is normal for this switch series.

Doesn't sound that bad , a little busy . 2924's will run 30% without anyone doing anything which is normal . If you are worried about it follow this http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/switches/ps607/products_tech_note09186a0080094e78.shtml

Hi all,
