WS-X6148-RJ-45 , WS-X6248-RJ-45 OIR

I just replaced the WS-X6248-RJ-45 with WS-X6148-RJ-45 within the same slot for Catalyst 6509 Switch . However , I can't config the FE port in WS-X6248-RJ-45 into switchport as below indicated :

(config-if)#interface FastEthernet7/4

(config-if)# no ip address

(config-if)# switchport

(config-if)# switchport mode access

Command rejected: Fa7/4 not a switching port.

While I put the WS-X6148-RJ-45 back to the same slot , the same error message appear , that mean I can't place the port for this subject slot (No matter with WS-X6148-RJ-45 or WS-X6248-RJ-45)

back to "switchport" any more .

I am wondering if the OIR for this two module make it happen and if I have to reboot the system to make it come back to normal condition as the default setting for the ports of these two module was supposed to be "switchport" !!

What happens when you give only the following commands:

(config-if)#interface FastEthernet7/4

(config-if)# no ip address

(config-if)# switchport

And then check, " Show int fa 7/4 switchport "

What is the IOS that you are running on the BOX. Please paste the "show version " and " show module" from the chassis.

Also try reseating the module back in the chassis and see if that makes any difference.

The system accept the command without reject message but I find the switchport status was "disabled" by "Show int fa 7/4 switchport" command . The show result was attached below !!
