Hi Experts,
If I'm using VTP , then i want to know from which switch my existing switch receive it's VLAN infromation.

Hi Friend,
If you run "sh vtp status" in the last line you will see the ip address of the switch who had updated this VTP client switch.
Switch#sh vtp status

exactly what i want is the name of the switch who gives my existing switch it's VLAN not it's IP address.

Hi
You can only get the name if you have an entry for the IP address in your DNS.
CDP would show you the name but you would have to be lucky enough to be on a switch that is connected to the root bridge.

Hi Jon,
Thanx for your answer , assume that the existing switch connected directly to 2 switches and one of them is root bridge , so show cdp neighbors detail command will display the ID ( hostname ) for the connected switches and their's ip addresses not MAC address to trace the root bridge , so if the root bridge doesn't have an ip address????!!!

YES u can find from which switch ur existing switch has got the vlan information, juz type " "show vtp status" in that last line showz the ip address from which it has got the vlan information. below is the output of my existing switch in my network
3750#sh vtp status

Hi Ibrahim,
you will not get the name of switch until unless you are using DNS
or If you are trying to figure out if this possible then I can suggest you one thing, if CDP is enabled :-
trace the mac-address of switch and use show cdp command set to check the out the hostname.
