Root Bridge

HI Experts,

How can i find the Root Bridge name ( Hostname ) from any switch within the switched network .

Hi Ibrahim,

Thats is not possible and also in your VTP post you want to know the host name but that is not possible.

Show commands will either give you an ip address and for something like finding root bridge you will get mac address of the root bridge but not the host names.

If you have mainatiend soem DNS entries then you may do a lookup to find the details.

Hi Ibrahim,

"show spanning-tree root" displays the MAC address of the root bridge, do you mean you want to know the hostname from the MAC address, as i don't think that it is possible.

You will not able to find the root bridge Hostname on the network unless you know the IP address of it and you have a DNS entry for the root bridge in the DNS server.

You can certainly find the mac-address of the root bridge and locate the root bridge on the network.

Switch# show spanning-tree active
