ISDN Test-Call not possible on CISCO878

Unanswered Question
Aug 1st, 2007

Hello,

our company works for dsl-carriers in Germany. One part of our work is the test and refurbishment of cpe-routers like 876, 878 or 18xx. During the test of several 878 we determined problems with isdn test-call.

Configuration :

!

interface BRI0

no ip address

encapsulation hdlc

isdn switch-type basic-net3

isdn point-to-point-setup

isdn send-alerting

isdn sending-complete

!

ISDN-Status :

Router#sh isdn status

Global ISDN Switchtype = basic-net3

ISDN BRI0 interface

dsl 0, interface ISDN Switchtype = basic-net3

Layer 1 Status:

ACTIVE

Layer 2 Status:

TEI = 64, Ces = 1, SAPI = 0, State = MULTIPLE_FRAME_ESTABLISHED

Layer 3 Status:

0 Active Layer 3 Call(s)

Active dsl 0 CCBs = 0

The Free Channel Mask: 0x80000003

Total Allocated ISDN CCBs = 0

Router#

Test-Call :

Router#isdn test call int bri 0 33

Debug Q.931 and isdn events :

*Mar 1 04:04:32.591: ISDN BR0 EVENT: UserIdle: callid 0x8002 received ISDN_CALL (0x0)

*Mar 1 04:04:32.591: ISDN BR0 **ERROR**: process_bri_call: Outgoing call id 0x8002 blocked

*Mar 1 04:04:32.591: ISDN BR0 **ERROR**: UserIdle: process_bri_call failed on call to 33

*Mar 1 04:05:02.591: ISDN BR0 EVENT: UserIdle: callid 0x8002 received ISDN_HANGUP (0x1)

*Mar 1 04:05:02.591: ISDN BR0 **ERROR**: CCBRI_Go: NO CCB Src->HOST call id 0x8002, event 0x5 ces 1

*Mar 1 04:05:02.591: ISDN BR0 EVENT: process_rxstate: ces/callid 1/0x8002 calltype 1 HOST_QUERY_RESPONSE

The router does not setup the call, neither being connected to an isdn-line of a german telekom switch nor connected to an isdn-pbx. A CISCO876 with the same IOS and setup works very well. Additionally, I couldn't find the debug messages anywhere on the CCO or in the web. I have tested 5 878, all showing the same symptoms.

Is there anybody who can help me or do I need to open a ticket with the TAC ?

Best regards,

Stephan

I have this problem too.

I also did some research in the feature navigator. It tells me that there is no actual image available for the 878 with ISDN-functionality. What's that ? It has a BRI-interface and is identical with the 876 with the exception of the dsl-interface. Does it mean that 878 routers do not support ISDN-backup ????

Best regards,

Stephan

Hi Stephan

As per the data sheet Cisco 878 supports out of band management with the isdn port and i dont think you can make use of the same for dial back solution.

But its the other way with Cisco 876 which supports both isdn dial backup as well as out of band management with the isdn port.

So i dont think you will be able to execute any isdn dial commands since it doesnt support the feature..

Hi,

thank you for this information. It's very astonishing, but it seems to be a fact, that this ISDN interface on a 878 is not usable for backup purposes.

Best regards,

Stephan

Paolo Bevilacqua Mon, 08/06/2007 - 01:50

Very strange indeed. However, the data sheet indicated that for backup on the 876, an advance enterprise service image is needed. I would try to load that one and see if something changes.

s.steiner Mon, 08/06/2007 - 02:08

I will try this. But in the downloadcenter, you have to coose 876 for the download of this featureset. When you choose 878, this image won't be available.

Stephan

Paolo Bevilacqua Mon, 08/06/2007 - 02:29

Correct, however the filename reflects that even "enterprise image" is applicable to all 87x. So it's worth a try. Let us know how it goes.

s.steiner Tue, 08/07/2007 - 04:01

Ok, also the enterprise-image doesn't work :
